Elaine Sumner Hunter, 68, of 211 Crescent Drive, Hertford, NC, died Monday, December 10, 2012 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mrs. Hunter was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of Helen Chappell Sumner of Hertford and the late William Leslie "Rip" Sumner. A retired LPN from Chowan Hospital in Edenton after more than 22 years of employment, she was a member of Hertford Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband, W.G. "Pete" Hunter; two daughters, Michelle Cox Woodworth of Asheville and Stacey Cox Reynolds and husband Joey of Roper; a son, Alex Cox of Hertford; four sisters, Janice Thornton, Joyce Elliott, and Nellie Gregory, all of Hertford and Dorcas Adams of Birmingham, AL. Also surviving are Pete's daughters, Jackie Harbeson and husband Jeff of Roanoke, VA and Rene Kuzniar of Charlotte. Together Elaine and Pete share 10 grandchildren, Katlyn, Colby, Haley, Sam, Emma, Sumner, Riley, Haden, Hunter, and Jackson. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. Gregory Clark. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
