Ruth Tynch Barnes, 79, of 151 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton, NC, died Monday, December 24, 2012 in her home. Mrs. Barnes was born in Portsmouth, VA and was the daughter of the late James Raleigh, Sr. and Ada Mae Brown Tynch. A retired drugstore cashier, she was a homemaker and a former member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Reba Cowand, a son, Raleigh Pat Cowand, and by a brother, James R. "Jimmy" Tynch, Jr. Surviving are four daughters, Cherie Cowand of Edenton; Angela Lipps of Elizabeth City, Connie Lenhert of Bakersfield, CA, and Gail Beals of Las Vegas, NV; three sons, Starkey Cowand, Jr. of Norfolk, Bruce Lipps of Chesapeake and David Lipps of Edenton; a sister, Elizabeth McRae of Bakersfield; two brothers, Timmie Tynch of Edenton and John Tynch of Georgetown, SC; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Thomas Biggs. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
