John Robert Taylor, Sr.

John Robert Taylor, Sr., 77, of 714 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 in his home. Mr. Taylor was born in Gates County and was one of eight children of the late Edgar D. and Essie Lassiter Taylor. A retired pipefitter from Newport News Shipbuilding, he attended Open Door Church in Edenton, was a member of Perquimans Masonic Lodge #106, the William Paul Stallings Post #126 of the American Legion, and had served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Eva Ann Owens Taylor; two daughters, Beverly Bost and husband Gary of Troutman, NC and Jan Tilley and husband Tommy of Hertford; a son, Robert Taylor, Jr. and wife Kathleen of Tyner; a sister, Margaret Johnston of Sunbury; a brother, Lloyd Taylor of Portsmouth, VA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by Pastor Jay Rivenbark. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, and all other times at the residence.
