Marjorie Hobbs Hollowell, 93, of 2731 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC, died Friday, January 11, 2013 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation. Mrs. Hollowell was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Mills H. and Allie Mae Blanchard Hobbs. She served for nearly 12 years as the Chowan County Clerk of Superior Court, working in that office for a total of 35 years before retiring in 1994. A long-time member of Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church, she more recently had worshiped with Chowan Christian Fellowship. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bertrum Hollowell; sisters, infant Mary Mildred Hollowell and Lena Hobbs Fisher; by a brother, Glover Wendell Hobbs; and by her daughter-in-law, Lynda Copeland Hollowell. Surviving are her son, Joe Hollowell and partner Carolyn Meadows of Tyner; grandsons, Joseph Hollowell, III and wife Katie of Modesto, CA and Mark Hollowell and wife Lisa of Raleigh; granddaughter, Dr. Kerry Hollowell and partner Steve Benson of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Levi Hollowell and Knox Hollowell of Modesto, John Mark Hollowell, Jr. and Sarah Grace Hollowell of Raleigh; step-grandchildren, Anna Benson of Greenville and Zandy Benson of Raleigh; sister, Louise Chevalier and husband Bob of Wilmington; brother, Hubert Hobbs and wife Mary of Cloverdale, VA; her special friend, Elsie Thornton of Edenton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church by the Revs. Ron Parr, Thomas Gregory, and Billy Presley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
