Terry Dean Cartwright, 54, of 102 Etheridge Drive, Shawboro, NC, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 in his home. Mr. Cartwright was born in Pasquotank County and was the son of Marguerite Harrison Cartwright of Shawboro and the late Garfield Cartwright. The former owner and operator of Cartwright Lawn Care, he had also previously served as Chief Deputy for both Perquimans and Currituck Counties Sheriffs' Departments, as a Detective Sergeant with the Kitty Hawk Police Department, and as an officer with both Hertford and Edenton Police Departments. He was a member of Coinjock Baptist Church and had formerly been a member of Providence Baptist Church. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Abe Godfrey. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 33 years, Susan Godfrey Cartwright; a daughter, Terri Cartwright Davis of Shawboro; two sons, William Brett Cartwright and wife Janel and Ronny Neil Cartwright, all of Bloomingdale, GA; a sister, Kimberly Anglim and husband Tom of Washington; a brother, Gary Cartwright and wife Robin of Currituck; mother-in-law, Doris Godfrey of Hertford; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in Coinjock Baptist Church, 193 Worth Guard Road, Coinjock, NC, by the Rev. Ricky Bishop. A private burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City, with Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family Monday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the church and other times at the residence.
