Annie Ruth Hughes Stokely, 95, of 204 South Oakum Street, Edenton, NC, died Friday, February 1, 2013 at her daughter's home in Raleigh. Mrs. Stokely was born in Bertie County, and was the last surviving of the eight children born to Charlie C. and Rachel Hoggard Hughes. A homemaker, and formerly employed with the George C. Moore Co., she was a member of Edenton Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hoggard Stokely. Surviving are her daughter, Ruth S. Lupton and husband Clarence of Raleigh; her sons, William R. Stokely and wife Deborah of Thomasville and Joseph E. Stokely and wife Amelia of Chapel Hill; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church following the service.
