Beulah Marie Evans Williams, 94, of The Village at Woods Edge, Franklin, VA, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mrs. Williams was born in Chowan County, NC, and was the daughter of the late Zacharia Trotman and Effie White Evans. In earlier years she worked as a department store clerk before beginning a lifetime of service as a community volunteer. She had worked with the Suffolk Meals on Wheels Program, the American Red Cross, was a "Pink Lady" at Southampton Memorial Hospital, had been a care-giver for the elderly and disabled, and had been recognized by the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society in 2007 for over 6000 volunteer hours in making well over 100 afghans for infants born in the Naval Hospital. She was the first organist for Rocky Hock Baptist Church, later played for Wilroy Baptist Church, and at the time of her death was the pianist for the Franklin Baptist Church Senior Group. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nurney Williams; sisters, Lillie Saunders, Lonie Harrell, and Pearl Harrell; and by brothers, Carey, Edward, Roland, Alvin, and Milton Evans. Surviving are her sisters, Eleanor E. Byrum of Tyner, NC and Helen E. Lowe of Suffolk, VA; a brother, Marvin L. Evans of Edenton, NC; scores of nieces and nephews; and many, many, friends and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Franklin Baptist Church, by the Rev. Sharon James, Associate Pastor. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, NC, and will be officiated by Dr. James Horton, pastor of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. Friends may join the family on Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, NC.
