George Lewis Lang, Sr., 83, of 271 US Highway 158 West, Gatesville, NC, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his home. Mr. Lang was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Claudius Elmo, Sr., and Bertie Daniel Lang. Retired both as a farmer, and as a foreman with Lipton Tea, he was a faithful member and deacon of Gatesville Baptist Church, its Adult Choir, and the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Lang; a son, Joseph Elmo Lang; sisters, Amaryllis Riddick and Edna Earle Blanchard; and by brothers, Thurman Daniel Lang and C. Elmo Lang, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Jill Brown Lang, with whom he would have celebrated 57 years of marriage on February 18th; and their children, daughters, Amy Lang Smitherman and husband David of Winston-Salem, Bonnie R. Lang of Hampton, VA, and Judith Lang Simon and husband Eric of Montpelier, VA; a son, George Lewis Lang, Jr. and wife Joan of Gatesville; his brothers, Dan Lang of Gatesville and the Rev. Joseph Lang of Greensboro; and nine grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Asbill. Burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery, with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements.
