Ike McMullen Stokely, Sr. 87, of 1670 New Hope Road, Hertford, NC, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father and his beloved Kathleen on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from Kindred Care, Elizabeth City. Mr. Stokely was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late Murden and Celtic White Stokely. A retired meat cutter from White & Bright Food Center after 56 years of employment, he was known by everyone as "Captain Ike" and for his smile, friendliness and for providing the best cut meats in town. An Army veteran, he served in Central Europe during World War II. He was a member of Berea Church of Christ in the New Hope community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen White Stokely; a son, Ike M. Stokely, Jr.; a sister, Elizabeth Heath; three brothers, Jerry, Jim and Oscar Stokely; and a granddaughter, Rene. Surviving are his two daughters, Debbie Stokely White and husband Warren of Elizabeth City and Claudia Stokely Hurdle and husband John Elton of Hertford; two sons, Mike Stokely and wife Sue and Tony Stokely and wife Beverly; a daughter-in-law, Anne Stokely, all of Hertford; four sisters, Peggy Tepper and husband Jim and Inez Long, all of Hertford, Louise Swineford and Annie Reid Lewis, both of Raleigh; a brother, Paul Stokely and wife Edie of Hertford; sisters-in-law, Valeria Roberts and husband Frank, Lucy Mae White, and Maude White, all of Hertford; 13 grandchildren, Robin, Jeff, Adam, Matt, Jenny, Shellie, Charlotte, Cody, Brandon, Tommy, Shannon, Abby and Jacob; and 23 great-grandchildren, Noah Joshua, Reagan, Samuel, Gavin, Collin, Megen, Morgan, Emma, Ainsley, James, Eli, Jocelyn, Colt, Elizabeth, Landon, Emily, Chelsea, Logan, Katelynn, Willow, Dylan, Autumn, and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Berea Church of Christ by Pastors Phil Sutton and Jerry Norris. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery with Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, Hertford, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
