Maxine Thompson Besso

Maxine Thompson Besso, 71, of 944 County Line Road, Tyner, NC, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 in her home. Ms. Besso was born in Marlboro County, SC and was the daughter of the late John L. and Marie Hill Thompson. A loving mother and granny, she cared deeply for her family and enjoyed her role as a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Peggy, Lois and Billie Sue, and two brothers, Eugene and Dick. Surviving are her seven daughters, Vicki Constant and husband Mike and Anna Saunders, all of Suffolk, VA, Veronica Shank of Belvidere, Valerie Sheets of Suffolk, Lynda Olson of Eau Claire, WI, Jessica Geer of Lake Havasu, AZ and Shirley Cartwright and husband Kevin of Belvidere; a son, Tony Besso and wife Karen of Winfall; two brothers, John Thompson and wife Angie of Virginia Beach, VA and Wayne Thompson and wife Sharon of Grand Rapids, MI; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, VA by the Rev. James Spaugh. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at the residence.
