Naomi Jordan Ward, 85, of 405 Ryland Road, Tyner, NC, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mrs. Ward was born in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Vernon E. and Recer Dail Jordan. A homemaker, she had worked as a nursing assistant in the surgical department of the Naval Hospital, and later served for many years as a private duty nurse and caregiver for the elderly and disabled. A member of Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church, she had formerly been active in both its Sunday School and Adult Choir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Evans; and a sister-in-law, Anne Jordan. Surviving are her husband, Ralph Britton Ward, with whom she would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on February 16th; and their children, Wanda W. Armstrong and husband Jack, and Ralph Vann Ward, all of Tyner; her sister, Bernice J. Langley and husband Glenn; and her brother, Earl V. Jordan, also of Tyner; a brother-in-law, Merrill Evans of Kitty Hawk; three grandchildren, Britton Armstrong and wife Wendy, Stanley Armstrong and wife Patricia, and Jordan Denton and husband Phil; and two great-grandchildren, Asher and Taitum Armstrong. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
