Franklin Ray "Frank" Breckenridge, 48 of Howell Street, Hertford, NC, and formerly of Staunton, VA went to be with his Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013. Frank was born May 22, 1964 in Augusta County, VA to Charles Louis Carter, Sr. of Staunton and the late Gloria Jean Breckenridge and was raised by his foster parents, the late James and Hilton Darcus. A graduate of Fort Defiance, he was currently employed as a correctional officer at Bertie Correctional Facility. An outdoorsman, he loved boating and fishing. He was a former member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in New Hope, VA. In addition to his mother and foster parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Breckenridge. Surviving in addition to his father are his brothers and sisters, James and Eddie Darcus of Greensboro, Ronnie Darcus and wife Regina of Bridgewater, Charles L. Carter Jr. of New York, NY, Melody Wilson of Harrisonburg, VA, Deborah Darcus of Waynesboro, VA, Dee Leighton and husband James of AZ, and Tara Carter of New York, NY; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Also surviving are his very special friend and companion, Susan Neff of Hertford, and her children, Sara Neff of Winfall and Jeremy Neff of Fayetteville, and her grandchildren, Kaiden and Trinity Gordon, whom were very dear to Frank. Friends may join the family Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendeflt, Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in New Hope, VA, by The Rev. Willie Washington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, Fishersville, VA handling arrangements.
