Marie Boyce White Hobbs, 102, of 124 Skinner Road, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, February 16, 2013, in her home. Mrs. Hobbs was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Joseph Horace and Delphine Ward Boyce. A homemaker and farmer's wife, who toiled in the field alongside her husband, she was the oldest member of Burgess Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed membership in the Perquimans Senior Center and was active in its choir as well. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Dallas White, her husband of 50 years, later by her second husband, Charlie Hobbs, Sr.; sisters, Annie, Mae, Pecola, and Myrtle; brothers, Oscar, Roy, and Little Bud; and by a special son-in-law, Ralph Barr. Surviving are her daughters, Delphine W. Barr of Hertford and Minnie Norma Hyde and husband Lee of Matthews; three granddaughters, Melody Williams and husband Warren, Betty Marie Brickhouse and husband Steve, and Carla Parnell and husband Zac; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Dallas Winslow, and Taylor Brickhouse. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. Bill Thorn and the Rev. H. Gene Boyce. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
