Evelyn Determan Harrison

Evelyn Detterman Harrison, 89, of Hertford, passed away Sunday, February, 17, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Harrison was born in Chesapeake, VA and was the daughter of the late Henry Andrew and Mary Elliott Detterman. A resident of Hertford for 62 years, she retired from Colonial Food Stores and was a member of Hertford Baptist Church where she was active in the Phillia Sunday School Class and the Mattie Macon Circle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Etheridge Harrison, and a brother, Walter Bernard Detterman. Surviving are her two daughters, Paula McAllister and husband John and Barbara Nixon and husband Edward, all of Hertford; five grandchildren, Ed "Nick" Nixon, Jr., Tiffany Eure and husband William "Chicago," Amanda Winslow and husband Matt, all of Hertford, Brad McAllister of Chattanooga, TN, and Trevor McAllister of Atlanta, GA; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by Thomas Biggs and William Eure. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends many join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Wednesday and other times at the home of Barbara and Edward Nixon, 446 Ballahack Road, Hertford. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Herford Baptist Church, PO Box 34, Hertford, NC 27944 and is to be designated for use in the Missions Fund.
