James Thomas Wilder, 91, formerly of Woodland Circle, Hertford, NC, and more recently of Rocky Mount, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Autumn Care of Nashville. Mr. Wilder was born in Perquimans County and was one of 11 children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Wilder. A retired sales clerk with Hertford Hardware Co. where he worked for more than 50 years, he was a member and deacon of Hertford Baptist Church and also enjoyed membership in the Perquimans Senior Citizens Group. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Sawyer Wilder; a son, James Thomas "Tommy" Wilder, Jr.; and a grandson, Adam Thomas Wilder. Surviving are his son, Ronald Clayton Wilder and wife Cindy of Rocky Mount; his brother, Ed Wilder of Southern Pines; three grandchildren, Clay Wilder and wife Melanie, Tammy Wilder Harrell and husband Gary, and Stephanie Wilder; and five great-grandchildren, Kenleigh, Thomas, and Brannon Wilder, and Gates and Gavin Harrell. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. Gregory Clark and the Rev. H. Gene Boyce. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services.
