Anna Catheryn Griner Modlin, 78, of 11454 Blue Ridge Trail, Windsor, VA, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk. Mrs. Modlin was born in Orlando, FL, and was the daughter of the late Leonard Cleveland and Mary Edna Folds Griner. A homemaker, she was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and its W.M.U. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Harrington, and by a son-in-law, Steven E. Patrick. Surviving are her husband of over 50 years, James Edward Modlin; three daughters, Debra G. Patrick of Welaka, FL, Carrie M. Hearn of Windsor, VA, and Jennifer M. Simpson and husband Keith E. of Suffolk; two sisters, Letha Mae Gilleon and Sarah Collins, both of Orlando; three grandchildren, Dustin Cole Hearn, Courteney Elizabeth Simpson, and April Hearn McCully and husband, David, III; and two great-grandchildren, Lane E. Hearn and James David McCully, IV. A memorial service will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Roger Kiker and the Rev. Gilbert Crawford. Burial in the church cemetery will follow at a later time. Friends may join the family in the church social hall immediately following services on Friday, and all other times at Jennifer and Keith's home, 4040 Manning Road, Suffolk.
