Joseph Webb Campen, Sr., 69, of 234 Drummonds Point Road, Edenton, NC, died Monday, March 11, 2013. Mr. Campen was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Sidney Sawyer, Sr. and Dorothy Webb Campen. A retired brickmason, he was a member of Edenton Baptist Church but in recent years had attended Yeopim Baptist Church. Past memberships included the Unanimity Masonic Lodge #7, the Sudan Temple of the Shrine, and the Scottish Rites Bodies. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Campen Morris and husband Stuart of Edenton and Meg Campen Shaver and husband Gary of Ayden; a son, Joseph Webb Campen, Jr. and wife May of Edenton; a sister, Betsy Campen Bierowski of St. Croix, The Virgin Islands; a brother, Sidney Sawyer Campen, Jr. of Oxford, MD; six grandchildren, Sarah Lewis Norman and husband Steven, Sydney Kellehan Morris, Caroline Harley Shaver, Stuart Campen Morris, Joseph Clayton Shaver, and Catherine Lilly Shaver; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Lenita Brickhouse Campen of Edenton. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Yeopim Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Buck, pastor. Friends may join the family on the lawn of the church immediately following the service, or all other times at the home of his son, 249B Drummonds Point Road.
