Janet Wiley Hurdle, 82, of 100 ARPDC St., Apt. 111, Hertford, NC, and formerly of Hobbsville, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Kindred Healthcare, Ahoskie. Mrs. Hurdle was born in Craven County, NC and was the daughter of the late Luby Jackson and Monsieur Eure Wiley. A retired LPN, she worked many years at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, and prior to that assisted her husband in the operation of A.L. Hurdle's Supermarket in Hobbsville. A faithful member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, its W.M.U., and the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class, she was the past director of Acteens for the Chowan Baptist Association, and had served on the board of directors for Camp Cale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Abram Lindsay Hurdle, Sr., a grandson, Nicholas Andrew Hurdle, and by a brother, James Wiley. Surviving are three daughters, Betty Hurdle Joyner of Ahoskie, and Regina Paige Hurdle and Gail Hurdle Hawkins and husband Mike, all of Hobbsville; a son, A.L. Hurdle, Jr. and wife Ginny of Corapeake; three sisters, Merrill Peele of Hobbsville, Ellen Rountree of Hertford, and Sandra Weaver of Gatesville; a brother, Luby Wiley of Elizabeth City; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Joyner, Amy Joyner Hawkins and husband Chris, David Joyner and wife Kelly, Joseph and Alex Hurdle, and Ben and Bryce Hawkins; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Jackson Hawkins. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Jones. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at Gail and Mike's home, 012 Sandy Cross Road, Hobbsville.
