William Lewis Ownley, Sr.

William Lewis "Mookie" Ownley, Sr., 52, of 180 Winfall Blvd, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in his home. Mr. Ownley was born in Pasquotank County and was the son of Samuel Leighton Ownley, Sr. of Elizabeth City and the late Shirley White Ownley. Formerly employed as a security officer with Loomis Fargo, he was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church and had also been involved with various community activities. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Becky Ann Whitehurst Ownley; a daughter, Samantha Ownley of Hertford; two sons, William Ownley, Jr. of Suffolk, VA and Carson James Ownley of Hertford; a step-daughter, Samantha Polk of Edenton; a step-son, Conrad Polk of Hertford; a sister, Linda O. Ferrell and husband Donald of Hertford; four brothers, Sammy, Jr., Edward, Wayne, and Curt Ownley, all of Elizabeth City, two grandchildren, Brooke and Cody Ownley; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by Pastor Joe Jackson. Burial will follow in the Ownley Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the home of Becky's mother, 122 Upland Road, Hertford, or at the home of his father, 525 Ownley Road, Elizabeth City.
