Marshall Leroy Powell, Sr.

Marshall Leroy Powell, Sr., 85, of 121 Horseshoe Road, South Mills, NC, died Friday, March 29, 2013 in Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. Mr. Powell was born in South Mills, NC and was the son of the late Wade H., Sr. and Mae Eason Powell. Retired from J.W. Jones Lumber Company, he was a member and deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church, a member of the South Mills Ruritan Club, and loved hunting, having a big garden to share with others, and spending time with his grandboys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wade Hampton Powell, Jr. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Upton Powell; his son, Marshall Leroy Powell, Jr. and wife Jenny of Camden; three grandsons, Marshall Leroy Powell, III and wife Kimberly, Mark Lawrence Powell and fiancée Andrea Chaney, and Brent Richard Powell and wife Laurette; and a great-grandson, Grayden Winslow Powell, all of South Mills. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marjorie Powell of South Mills; and four nieces, Linda Temple of Elizabeth City, and Lorraine Mizelle, Nancy Farmer, and Melissa Linton, all of South Mills. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church by Pastor Frank Thigpen. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
