Melvin Chambers, 88, of 190 Blair Shores Road, Roper, NC, died Monday, April 1, 2013 in his home. Mr. Chambers was born in Washington County and was the son of the late Benjamin Frank and Cappie Davenport Chambers. A retired operating engineer with The Detroit News, he had attended Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his sons, Michael A. Chambers and wife Cynthia of Garden City, MI, and Paul Scott and wife Kris of Henderson, NV; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Alison. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the family cemetery near the home, and will be officiated by the Rev. Thomas Biggs. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and other times at the residence beginning on Monday evening.
