Joseph Kermit Barber, 79, of 311 Main Street, Winfall, NC, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mr. Barber was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late Durwood Leigh, Sr. and Ruth Godwin Barber. Working in the lumber business for most of his life, he retired as a salesman with Albemarle Builders Supply after approximately 59 years of employment. A former member of Epworth United Methodist Church, he had proudly served in the Winfall Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Durwood L. Barber, Jr. Surviving are his brother, Lindsey Earl "Red" Barber and wife Theresa of Elizabeth City; a special friend, Nancy L. Pritchard of Elizabeth City; a niece, Janet Leigh Notti and husband Pete of Diamond Bar, CA; a nephew, Carroll Barber of Ozark, MO; two great-nieces, Leigh Ann and Elizabeth Notti; and a great-nephew, Nicholas Notti. Graveside services will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery by the Rev. Gary Stanley. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.
