Clyde Branch Briggs, 84, of 2250 Rocky Hock Road, Edenton, NC, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 in Vidant Chowan Hospital. Mr. Briggs was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Allen Luke, Sr. and Elsie Mae Turner Briggs. A retired farmer, he was a member of Warwick Baptist Church, in earlier years had played semi-pro baseball in Florida and Kentucky, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ashley Briggs; his sister, Icalene Skillman; and by his brothers, A.L. Briggs, Jr. and Hanford B. Briggs, Sr. Surviving are four nephews, Wayne Briggs of Boca Rotan, FL, Allen Dale Briggs of Newport News, Hanford Briggs, Jr. of Elizabeth City, and Steve Skillman of Southport, NC; a sister-in-law, Alene Hollowell of Tyner; and by his special friend and companion, Betty Lou White of Hobbsville. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Warwick Baptist Church by the Rev. Frank Ellington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, in charge of arrangements. The family will assemble at the church on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in preparation of services. Following the graveside rites, a gathering for family and friends will be held in the church social hall.
