Joyce Winslow Hobbs, 85, of Snug Harbor Road, Hertford, NC, died Friday, April 12, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Hobbs was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Benjamin L. and Elizabeth Chappell Winslow. A homemaker, farmer's wife, and craftsperson, she was an accomplished basket weaver and seamstress. Prior to her recent declining health, she was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church, its W.M.U., Sunday School, and the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Roselyn Gray, and by a brother, Lawrence Winslow. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, J. Wallace Hobbs, Sr.; two daughters and their families, Beckie H. Clough, husband David of Springfield, VA, and their sons, Neil, Mark, and Jon; and Sybil H. Skinner, husband John of Hertford, and their children, Will and Elizabeth; three sons and their families, Benjamin C. Hobbs, wife Jackie of Hertford, and their sons, Calvin, Ernie, and Matt; John W. Hobbs, Jr., wife Nancy of Hertford, and their sons, Brian, Jeff, Wally, and Clifton; and Donald L. Hobbs, wife Joyce of Hertford, and their daughter, Tracy. Also surviving are a sister, Sarah Forsland of California; a brother, Benjamin L. "Jack" Winslow of Salt Lake City, UT; a sister-in-law, Marie Winslow of Hertford; and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, by the Revs. Garry Mickey and Stanley Nixon. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
