Elizabeth Nan Davenport Combs, 68, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Ms. Combs was born in Tyrrell County, North Carolina. Ms. Combs enjoyed over 40 years as a cosmetologist, and was widely respected by her peers. As the owner of Hair Masters in Elizabeth City, she gained an abundance of friends and customers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Milton and Gertrude Brickhouse Davenport, and her brother, Ronald Davenport. Surviving are her son, Michael Ray Hales of Carencro, LA; a grandson, Derek Michael Hales of Carencro, LA; a granddaughter, Halie Rene Hales of Houston, TX; two brothers, Walter and Ray Davenport, both of Columbia; three sisters, Annette Reynolds of Creswell, and Louise Sawyer and Fay Boyd, both of Columbia; a special cousin, Angela Brickhouse of Columbia; and her good friend and caregiver, Lynda Mason Sawyer of Hertford. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. in Columbia Christian Church, 602 Bridge Street, Columbia, NC. The family will receive guests at the church, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society's McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge, 930-A Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC, 27834.
