Byron Pascal Kehayes, 79, of 11 Old Fish Hatchery Road, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in Vidant Chowan Hospital. The son of the late Ernest P. and Antonie Kappes Kehayes, the family moved to Edenton when he was nine years old. Retiring as Executive Director of the Edenton Housing Authority, he also for many years owned and operated the former P & Q Supermarket. Baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Edenton, he was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hertford, a member and 1st Commodore of the Albemarle Sail and Power Squadron, and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Surviving are his wife of nearly 29 years, Barbara Jones Kehayes; a daughter, Sylvia Kehayes Davidson and husband William of Edenton; a son, Ernest G. Kehayes and wife Beverly of Greensboro; a sister, Dolly Millett of Huntington Beach, CA; two brothers, Thomas C. Kehayes and wife Susan of Macon, GA and Alexander R. Kehayes, MD and wife Sally Frances of Edenton. Also surviving are Barbara's daughter, Nancy Hendee Shields and husband Matthew of Newbury, Berkshire, UK; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; his former wife and the mother of his children, Opal W. Kehayes of Edenton; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A memorial service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church by the Rev. John H. Bonner, III. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family in the parish hall of the church immediately following services, and all other times at the residence.
