Myrtis Downs Stallings

Myrtis Downs Stallings, 79, of 680 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC, died Monday, May 13, 2013, in Vidant Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Stallings was born in Martin County and was the daughter of the late Jason and Inez Cannon Downs. A retired clerk from Red Apple Markets, she was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Stallings, and by children, William D. "Billy" Rea, III and Shirley Jean Welser. Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Rea Alexander and husband Earl, and Deborah Pierce and husband John Paul, all of Edenton; a son, Dwight Allen Rea and wife Peggy of Hertford; two sisters, Sue Tice of Williamston and Faye Jenkins of Seneca, SC; three brothers, Cecil Downs of Plymouth, Jim Downs of Pascagoula, MS, and Bobby Downs of Palm Bay, FL; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by Pastors Edgar Masoncup and Mike McNamara. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
