Sammie Bertram Sutton

Sammie Bertram Sutton, 80, of 1413 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation. Mr. Sutton was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late Sammie and Antoinette Williams Sutton. A retired antique furniture restorer, he was a member of Hertford Baptist Church, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Phelps Rethford Sutton. Surviving are his step-son, Michael L. Rethford and wife Carlette of Hertford; a sister, Sarah Chappell and husband Ted of Fayetteville; a step-granddaughter; two step-grandsons; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Graveside services will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the Sutton Family Cemetery by Pastor Chris Wilson. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at the home of Michael and Carlette, 1411 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Chowan Baptist Association, 108 Berry Street, Hertford, NC 27944, and is to be designated for use in the Handyman Ministry/Disaster Relief.
