Lawrence Francis McGrogan, Jr., 78, of 205 Rockfish St., Edenton, NC, went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Hertford. Mr. McGrogan was born May 15, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Lawrence Francis McGrogan, Sr. and Dorothy Ann Quinn McGrogan Clark. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Edward McGrogan and a sister, Florence Ann Bucholski. Larry joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and retired after 20 years of service to his country. He then worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, PA for several years. Then he became a diesel mechanic and worked for Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority for 17 years before retiring in 1997 and moving to North Carolina with his wife and son, Kevin, in 1999. Larry was an original member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Elizabeth City. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Corinne Bopry McGrogan; three sons, Lawrence F. McGrogan, III and wife Margaret, of Virginia Beach, Loren T. McGrogan and fiancée Denise Fulmer of Pennsburg, PA and Douglassville, PA respectively, and Kevin E. McGrogan of Edenton; one brother, Francis J. McGrogan of Philadelphia; four sisters Dorothy M. Greiner and Geraldine Walker of Philadelphia, Patricia R. Begley and husband Denny of Peoria, AZ, and Sandra T. Plajer of Newtown, PA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews and many good friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 Interpath Parkway, Elizabeth City, with Pastor Greg Yeager officiating. Friends may join the family at the residence. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
