Betty Winslow Beers

Betty Jean Winslow Beers, 80, of 212 Woodland Circle, Hertford, NC died Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mrs. Beers was born in Perquimans County on May 25, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Lindsay C. and Myrta White Winslow. A retired clerk with the Perquimans County Tax Dept., she was also a co-owner of the former J.C. Blanchard Farm Equipment Co. and a substitute teacher in the Perquimans County School System. A faithful member of Hertford United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, she had formerly been involved in the Perquimans Home Demonstration Clubs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Beers; her son, Mark Winslow Beers; and her sister, Barbara W. Rose. Surviving are two daughters, Dina B. Hurdle and husband Donald of Belvidere and Mary Lindsey "Sam" Hare and husband Michael of Tyner; her God-son, Dana E. Stahlman of Lakewood, NY; her granddaughter, Ashley H. Stoop and husband Brad, and their son, Carter, of Belvidere; in-laws, Tom, Helen, and Mary Beers; nieces, Lynne Raisor, Julie Cole, Laurie Davenport, Suzy Harrison, and Cathy Dickey; nephews, Kim Rose, Steve Beers, and Jim Beers; and her loving pup, "Toy". To her, family was everything, and Betty was especially close to all her Winslow and White cousins, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church by the Revs. Larry Bowden and Jon Strother. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the Fellowship Hall of the church immediately following the graveside rites on Sunday, and all other times at Dina and Donald's home, 1287 Belvidere Road, Belvidere. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Hertford United Methodist Church, 200 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC 27944.
