Doris Small Lane, 94, formerly of East Queen Street, Edenton, NC, died Friday, May 24, 2013 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation. Mrs. Lane was born in Chowan County, and was the daughter of the late William Bonner and Virginia Small. A retired cashier, she had worked with Colonial Store, Phthisic's Supermarket, A & P, and Rose's, and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and both the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Watson Lane; sisters, Gertrude, Agnes, Mary, and Elizabeth; and by brothers, Thomas, Everett, James, and William. Surviving are her daughters, Rebecca Hughes "Becki" Bissette and husband Johnie, and Linda Lane Cullipher and husband Daniel, all of Merry Hill; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and 18 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28th, at 2:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Young. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
