Willie Mae Basnight Freeman, 90, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Kindred Care of Elizabeth City. Mrs. Freeman was born in Pasquotank County and was the daughter of the late William Franklin, Sr. and Dora Butts Basnight. A retired cook with the Circle Restaurant, she had also formerly been employed at the Colonial Restaurant and Tucks Bar-B-Q, and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Rudolph Enos Freeman, Sr., her daughter, Addienne Byrd, and sisters, Mocile Price, Adelaide Hinton, Lenore Reid, Rosa Lee Basnight, and a brother, William F. Basnight, Jr. Surviving are her daughters, Wanda Jones of Waterbury, CT, Sheila Purnell of Elizabeth City, Millicent Freeman and Cynthia Freeman, both of Waterbury, Myra Graham of Elizabeth City, and Altricia Felton of Fort Washington, MD; sons, David Gibbs and wife Juanita, Kelvin Freeman and wife Heather, all of Elizabeth City, Vincent Freeman and wife Priscilla of Jacksonville, NC, Delvin Freeman and wife Lorrain and Kearney Freeman and wife Vallrie, all of Waterbury; 37 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 313 Shirley St., Elizabeth City, by Elder Edward Spence.
