Laverne Leroy Baker, Sr.

Laverne Leroy Baker, Sr., 64, of Virginia Road, Edenton, NC, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 in the Palliative Care Unit at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC. Mr. Baker was born in Carlisle, PA, and was the son of the late Jacob H. and Virginia Pearl Adams Baker. He was a retired operations manager with Royal Freight Company in McAllen, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cherie McDowell. Surviving are his daughter, Lynette Lively of Harriman, TN; four sons, Laverne L. Baker, Jr. of Hammond, LA, Edward C. Baker and wife Rhonda of Knoxville, TN, Jeffrey K. Baker and wife Penny of Edenton, and Christopher M. Baker of Mustang, OK; two brothers, Jacob H. Baker, Jr. of Carlisle, PA and Paul Baker of Boiling Springs, PA; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, by the Rev. Danny Gurganus. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, and all other times at Jeff and Penny's home, 654 Virginia Road.
