Allen Dale Briggs

Allen Dale Briggs, 60, went peacefully to be with our Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Born in Norfolk, VA, and raised in Edenton, he lived his adult life in the Tidewater area of Virginia. By trade, he was UNIX systems administrator at Langley AFB, INRI, Symantec, and lastly, Northrup Grumman. In his heart and soul, Al was a musician and song-writer. Al's music is well known in the Tidewater area. As singer for "Briggs Rigg" in the late 1970's, he went on to perform as a member of many duets and trios. Most recently, he sang at Aroma's, both solo and accompanied by his many friends from CNU. An active member of West Hampton Baptist Church, Al was, of course, best known for his gift of musicjamming with the praise band, teaching guitar to the youth, and performing during services and socials. Preceded in death by his father, A.L. Briggs, and by his step-father, Jake Hollowell, he is survived by his wife of 29 years, Valerie Briggs; children, Zachary and wife Justine, Zoe, and Zane; a granddaughter, Evelyn; his beloved mother, Alene Hollowell; a brother, Wayne Briggs and wife Ingrid; a step-sister, Pat Hensley and husband Jerry; step-brothers, Tom Hollowell and wife Vickie, and Roy Hollowell and wife Wanda; and innumerable other family and family-by-heart.
