Clyde Winford Overton, Sr.

Clyde Winford Overton, Sr., 72, of 1883 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in his home. Mr. Overton was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late Ed and Ever Lilley Overton. A retired logging foreman with Weyerhauser Corp., he was a member of Burgess Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, C.W. "Trey" Overton, III. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Melba Gray Overton; two daughters, Diane Kirby of Hertford and Barbara Overton of Smithfield; two sons, C.W. Overton, Jr. of Belvidere and Jason Overton of Hertford; a sister, Emma Ward of Florida; three brothers, Crafton Overton and James Overton, both of Hertford, and George Overton of Virginia Beach; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, by Pastors Larry Privott and Nick Kahl. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
