Thomas Cecil Nixon, Sr., 89, of 147 Nixon Road, Edenton, NC, died Friday, July 12, 2013 in his home. Mr. Nixon was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Joel Cecil, Sr. and Mary Lou Nixon. A retired farmer and commercial fisherman, he was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, and was a Navy veteran of World War II having served in the European-African Theatre. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Dolores Barber Nixon, his son, Mike Delaney, and by brothers, Louis, Murray, and Leroy Nixon. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Chappell Nixon; children, Edith Moore, Mary Jane Pierce, and Vickie Walker, all of Sunbury, Patricia Delaney of Garner, Joseph Delaney of Sumerduck, VA, Thomas C. Nixon, Jr. of Edenton, Nadine Harris of Tyner, Cristle Bass of Jamesville, and Arlene Spear and Lisa Joyner, both of Hertford; sisters, Ada Butler and Frances Layton, both of Edenton and Mary Lou Reddin of Chesapeake, VA; brothers, Earl and J.C. Nixon, both of Edenton; 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton. Burial will follow in the Nixon Family Cemetery, with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
