Elsie Sawyer Godfrey

Elsie Sawyer Godfrey, 76, most recently of Kindred Care of Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Mrs. Godfrey was born in Camden County and was the daughter of the late George Ernest "Buck" and Nancy Johnson Sawyer. A retired seamstress, she was a member of City Road United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Godfrey, by her sister, Ruby Margaret Sawyer, and by brothers, Thomas "Tommy" Sawyer and George Ernest Sawyer, Jr. Surviving are two sisters, Faye Sawyer, and Bessie Needham and husband Gideon, all of Camden; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Boyce Porter.
