Henderson Gray "H.G." Cobb, 81, of 1913 US 17 North, Merry Hill, NC, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mr. Cobb was born in Bertie County, and was the son of the late Norman Henderson and Bernice Lucille Mizelle Cobb. A farmer and carpenter, he had retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, now Avoca, Inc., and was a member of Merry Hill Baptist Church and charter member of the Mid-Way/Merry Hill Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Perry. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Jean Outlaw Cobb; a daughter, Deborah Cobb Hoggard and husband Jim of Merry Hill; three sons, Bud Cobb and wife Nora of Colerain, Jamie Cobb and wife Kristie of Merry Hill, and Jodie Cobb and wife Kim of Greenville; three sisters, Inez Modlin of Durham, Doris Mizelle of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Vivian Eason of Hampton, VA; two brothers, Marvin Cobb of Ayden-Grifton and Milford Cobb of Suffolk, VA; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Merry Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Stanley Nixon. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery, with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements.
