Maurice Alonza Waff, Sr., 83, of 103 Crestwood Land, Edenton, NC, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in Vidant Chowan Hospital. Mr. Waff was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late John Edward, Sr. and Hettie Layton Waff. Before retirement, he and his brothers were the owners of Waff Brothers Construction & Contracting. A member of Macedonia Baptist Church, he was a charter member of the Advance Ruritan Club, and had served in the NC National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Bunch and Juanita Spruill, and by brothers, Edward, John, Edsel, and Alvin Waff. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ima Jean Layton Waff; a daughter, Sharon J. Waff; and a son, Al Waff and wife Pat, all of Edenton; three sisters, Hettie Wallace and Doris Bunch, both of Edenton, and Kathleen Byrum of Tyner; three grandchildren, Brian Waff, Scot Waff and wife Anna, and Nicole Hill and husband Charles; and five great-granddaughters, Melanie Waff, and Sara, Gracie, Lily, and Melody Hill. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church by the Revs. Bob Young and Wallace Phillips. A private graveside committal service for the immediate family will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
