Esther Davenport Marriner, 92, of 104 Moseley Street, Edenton, NC, died Thursday, August 15, 2013 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation, Edenton. Mrs. Marriner was born in Martin County and was the daughter of the late Joseph Samuel and Allie Rawls Davenport. A homemaker, she was a member of Cape Colony Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard G. Marriner, and by a sister, Louise Knox. Surviving are three daughters, Esther Mae Williams of Elizabeth City, Peggy M. Harper of Point Harbor, and Nancy Kennedy of Edenton; three sons, Tommy Marriner and Douglas Marriner, both of Hertford, and William "Sammy" Marriner of Point Harbor; two sisters, Gladys Scott of Tarboro and Eula Scott of Bethel; two brothers, James Edward Davenport of Greenville and William Davenport of Bethel; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Cape Colony Church of Christ by the Rev. Thomas Biggs. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements.
