William Robert Ashley, Jr., 78, of 208 County Line Road, Tyner, NC, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville. Mr. Ashley was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late William Robert Ashley, Sr. and Lonie Mae Roberson Ashley Smith. A retired log truck driver, he was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church and was an Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Raiford and Mable Ashley. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Shirley Hassell Ashley; a daughter, Shirley Madry and husband Mel of Tyner; two sons, James Tynch and wife Doris of Edenton and Johnny Tynch of Tyner; a sister, Eleanor Smith of Ahoskie; three grandchildren, April Perry, and Heather and Cody Madry; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lucas Perry. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
