Naomi Rae Barnes Spry

Naomi Rae Barnes Spry, 81, of 654 Muddy Creek Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Spry was born in Tyrrell County and was the daughter of the late George Washington and Elizabeth Phelps Barnes. The retired co-owner and operator of Nana's Nook in Virginia Beach, VA, she was a member of Suffolk Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Orin Spry; two sons, John Edwards and wife Monica of Gates and Ken Edwards and wife Peggy of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Jennifer Pishioneri and husband Mike, Alisha Edwards, and Stacey Rodriguez and husband Eddie; and three great-grandchildren, Logan Pishioneri, and Madilyn and Justin Rodriguez, and one due in November, Layla Grace Pishioneri. Funeral services will be held Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Monday evening. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E.
