Milton Leroy Chappell

Milton Leroy Chappell, 80, of 1027 Ryland Road, Tyner, NC, died Friday, August 30, 2013 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mr. Chappell was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late William Thomas and Lucy Lamb Chappell. Retired with the rank of Technical Sergeant from the US Air Force after 20 years of service, he was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Elizabeth City Seventh Day Adventist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death two sisters, Myra Messner and his twin, Mildred Chappell; three brothers, Carlton, Louis, and Walton Chappell; and a grandson, Brian Christopher Chappell. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Sherry Goodwin Chappell; three daughters, Mildred C. Lane and husband Larry, Donna C. Lane, and Kathy C. Cherrix and husband Douglas; two sons, Ernest Chappell and Brian Chappell and wife Martha, all of Tyner; two sisters, Alice Byrum of Tyner and Mary Winslow of Belvidere; eight grandchildren, Roy Melton, III and wife Sandra, Kevin Melton and wife Kristy, Lorna Forehand and husband Jamie, Lance Lane, Mirinda Lane, Tray Walker and wife Jennifer, Brittney Walker, and Hailey Chappell; and eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Austin, Bridget, Brandon, and Brent Melton, Aiden Forehand, Trace Walker, III and Lily Walker. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. William Byrum. Burial with full military honors will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
