Johnny Edward Owens, Sr., 83, of 300 First Street, Edenton, NC, died peacefully, Friday evening, September 6, 2013, at his home. Mr. Owens was born in Henderson, NC, later moved to Edenton as a small child, and was the son of the late John and Ida Owens. The retired produce manager of A&P Food Stores, he later worked with HTM Concepts in Windsor. A member of Edenton Baptist Church, he had served as the Director of Sunday School, was a member of the Adult Choir, and led singing for the Men's Bible Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah L. Owens. Surviving are his daughter, Pamela E. Owens and her fiancé Bobby Atkinson of Durham; his son, Johnny E. Owens, Jr. of Edenton; his grandson, Jamie K. Haskett of Winterville; and his brother, Nathan Owens and wife Lois of Edenton. Friends may join the family at the residence. On Tuesday, the family will gather at Beaver Hill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. to greet friends and other relatives, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. that will be officiated by the Rev. David Brooks. The Owens family is handling all funeral arrangements, and request that flowers be omitted and contributions in his memory be made to Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S.
