Judith Iris Gilbert

Judith Lee Iris Gilbert, 80, of 202 Rhonda Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Gilbert was born in Brockton, MA and was the daughter of the late Harvey R. and Olive Byron Fosdick Iris. A correctional officer, she had retired from the Washington D.C. Department of Corrections. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Melvin Gilbert, Sr., and a brother, Harvey R. Iris, II. Surviving are her two daughters, Donna Lee Gilbert Hudgins and husband Greg of Elizabeth City and Elizabeth Iris "Lisa" Gilbert Stout and husband Ed of Fredericksburg, VA; two sons, Bruce Wayne Gilbert and wife Suzy of Chapin, SC and George M. Gilbert, Jr. and wife Carol of Elizabeth City; two sisters, Mollie Lue Traggis and Sylvia Diane Perry; a brother, Jonathan Iris; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Newbegun United Methodist Church by Pastor Roger Braun. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
