Johnny Wayland Byrum, Jr.

Johnny Wayland Byrum, Jr., 72, of 1340 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, NC, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, Elizabeth City. Mr. Byrum was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late John Wayland, Sr. "Gabby" and Rubelle Winslow Byrum. A retired electrician from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 26 years of employment, he had later worked as a site attendant with Waste Industries for 10 years. A member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, he was an Army veteran. Surviving are his wife of nearly 49 years, Louise Chappell Byrum; a daughter, Carol Denise Byrum of Belvidere; and three brothers, Harold L. Byrum and wife Betty, Jimmy P. Byrum, and Mike B. Byrum and wife Betty, all of Hertford. Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. William Byrum. Friends may join the family at the residence.
