Hedi Steffen Shorter

Hedi Steffen Shorter, 70, of 119 Flyway Drive, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mrs. Shorter was born in Chicago, IL and was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Rita Zitzwitz Steffen. Formerly employed with State Farm Insurance, and later Lewis Seafood Restaurant, both in Norfolk, VA, she was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ in Hertford. Surviving are her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Shorter, Jr.; two daughters, Suzanne Finnerty and daughter-in-law Tina Finnerty of Virginia Beach, and Stephanie Finnerty Brothers and son-in-law David Brothers of Norfolk; her step-children, Josie Colenda of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ann Frasier, Amy Shorter, and Robert E. Shorter, all of Norfolk; a sister, Steff Coleman and brother-in-law George of Connecticut; two grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25th, at 3:00 p.m. in Bethlehem Church of Christ, 602 Pender Road, Hertford. A second memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28th at 5:00 p.m. in Colonial Heights Church of Christ, 833 Marvin Ave., Norfolk.
