Rebecca Jane Walker Shepard, 86, the wife of Thomas Hoskins Shepard, died Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Shepard was born in Burlington, NC, May 4, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Daniel Joshua and Annie Hurdle Walker. A 1948 graduate of Women's College of Greensboro, she moved to Edenton that same year and taught math in the Chowan County high schools. She served as a treasurer for St. Paul's Episcopal Church and St. Paul's Churchwomen for many years, was a member of the local Daughters of the American Revolution, and the North Carolina Society of Colonial Dames of America. In addition to her husband of 62 years, she is survived by her son, William Blount Shepard, III and wife Karen Keenan Shepard of Chapin, SC; her daughter, Anne Shepard Parrish and husband Richard Carroll Parrish, Sr. of Edenton; six grandchildren, Thomas Hoskins Shepard, II of Charleston, SC, Martha Blount Shepard of Gainesville, FL, Terrence Keenan Shepard of Clemson, SC, Richard Carroll Parrish of Columbia, SC, Rebecca Shepard Parrish of Arlington, VA, and Daniel Walker Parrish and wife Dominique of Raleigh. Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Thomas Hoskins Shepard, Jr., her grandson, George Hoskins Parrish, three brothers, Daniel Joshua Walker, James Wilson Walker, and Edwin Gibson Walker, and by her sister, Annie Hurdle Walker Reynolds. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church by The Reverend Nancy Allison. Burial will be on the family plot in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and other times at the residence.
