Arlen Gerald Smith

Arlen Gerald Smith, 72, of 30 Taylor Mill Road, Eure, NC, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Born in Lake Valley, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Elmer Herman and Mabel Balliet Smith. Formerly employed as an electrical engineer with Lockheed Corp., he retired from Railroad Crosstie, Inc., had served in the United States Air Force, and was a member of Eure Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of over 31 years, Kay Parker Ward Smith; a son, Darren Smith of Houston, TX; two brothers, Allen Smith of California and Darrell Smith of Sequin, TX. Also surviving are Kay's sons, Bryant Ward and wife Kathy of Williamsburg, VA and Mark Ward of Beckley, WVA. Together Arlen and Kay shared ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, DeAnna; and by Kay's son, Mike. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Eure Baptist Church by Dr. Wayne Proctor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and in the church social hall following services on Friday.
