David Kent Drown

David Kent Drown, 77, of 111 Coosaw Circle, Albemarle Plantation, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 in his home. Mr. Drown was born in Huntington, WV and was the son of the late Gaston Kent Drown and Emily Spencer Drown Keyser. A retired AP Chemistry teacher at Bowie High School in Bowie, MD, he served as chairman of the school's Science Department, and coached both the Chess Club and Tennis Teams. A member and former Elder of Berwyn Presbyterian Church in Greenbelt, MD, he had served in the United States Air Force, did his undergraduate studies at Marshall University, and earned his graduate degree from the University of Maryland. An avid golfer, he had served as a volunteer marshal for SAS and Allianz at the Pro-Champion Tour Tournaments. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Drown, and by his step-father, Jack Keyser. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Gloria Dawn Young Drown; two daughters, Deborah Paxton and husband Joseph of Charleston, WV and Deanna Auerbach and husband Joseph of Cary, NC; three grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Bonnie Dawn Paxton, Nathan Kent Auerbach, and Nicholas Patrick Auerbach; a sister, Mary Emily LaFon and husband Larry of Huntington; and two brothers, William Drown and wife Charlene of Grand Blanc, MI and Allen Drown and wife Gwynn of Maumee, OH. A visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC. On Friday, a visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel Saturday at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial in the funeral home's cemetery, Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, located on the same grounds. Memorial contributions may be made to any local chapter of the American Heart Association, or by visiting the website address at, www.heart.org.
